What other Canadians have to say:

My wife and I were introduced to San Carlos at one of Tom and Diane's seminars in Edmonton. The first year we drove down for a month and fell in love with San Carlos and its people. Last year we went for 3 months and made many new friends and renewed old acquaintances. This year we would have gone for 5 months, but due to my mother-in-law's health problems we can't plan anything at the moment. We are always very busy in San Carlos. We climb the mountains, cycle, hike, tour, fish, swim, kayak and spend a lot of time at Ruby's Wine Bar where you can buy a beer for 90 cents. We always feel very safe. The crime rate in San Carlos seems non-existent and the Mexicans are so helpful and friendly. We enjoy shopping for fruit, vegetables, fish and seafood from local Mexicans that bring their trucks in town with fresh produce. We also like to drive to Guaymas and shop at the regular supermarkets. Even though we always feel very safe in San Carlos and the surrounding area, we are careful when driving close to the border, even though we have never had any problems.

In January 2007 I read an article on San Carlos and its supernatural beauty in the travel section of the Edmonton Journal. I have lived and worked in northern Alberta most of my career and had decided to start planning on a perfect location in the south when I retire. Minus 40 C in Fort McMurray has a way of getting on your nerves after 31 years and I was eager to begin my quest for a retirement home in paradise. My son Dan and I travelled to San Carlos in November 2007 to check out the town. We were immediately in awe of the beauty of the mountains and the ocean. We could not believe our first sunset while we quenched our thirst at the Soggy Peso. Everybody we met, whether a local resident, visitor, or retiree was extremely content with the friendliness of the people, the beauty and the peaceful atmosphere. Retiree's I spoke with from Canada and the US all seemed to have a love affair for San Carlos. Health care also was a key point with everyone, with quality care in San Carlos and Guaymas.
We roamed the many beaches, neighborhoods, and watering holes in San Carlos for two days. i even discovered that being a senior doesn't keep people from socializing at Froggy's on Friday and Saturday nights. I liked what I saw and before my son and I left to come back to Canada, I purchased two lots in the San Carlos Country Club. Hence, I took my first step in my journey to retirement.
Subsequently, I have returned to San Carlos for 1 month of vacation in 2008 and 2009 and will be returning in November 2010. I have the house plans complete and was very impressed by the skill of the local architect from Guaymas. This fall I will be spending my time getting some prices for construction of the retirement hacienda. Retirement is soon and I have made my decision where I am going to be.
Oh. I forgot to mention to fellow Albertans. The beef is real good here in San Carlos. Goes real well with the shrimp and other ocean delights. See you there.
